Who am I as a writter?

I have always wanted to develop an investigation on English FL methodology and finally here I am in first thesis year trying to produce proper academic written texts which I am sure will help me to get used to write under the appropriate academic parameters. The investigation I would like to elaborate is related to active learning and PBL, so as you may have guessed I am terribly fond of didactics.

I am the kind of writer who knows what I want to express and have all the right words in my head, but I don’t have the adroitness to produce a piece of writing as accurate as I wish. It usually takes me a while to be concise and get straight to the point! On the other hand I probably should assume I am also quite demanding and I am hardly ever completely satisfied. I am prone to feel I sound too vague and not concise enough.

My main goal is to acquire some ´technique`  to sound formal, to show  that academic `rigour´  I believe I am supposed to have when writing a doctoral thesis... thought the truth is that, I  have the feeling that  when I write, I sound as I interact with my students. In short, in a close, constructive, friendly, and probably not very formal way.

In consequence I am pretty aware that I need to get used to produce a more formal register and some of the tools I will be using to help me to write better, are the ones I uploaded on this blog tools list.

Also, I am aware that in order to make progress at writing, I need to take into account my learning profile. Definitely,  I am a visual learner who learns by doing  and hates learning by heart without acquiring any meaningful learning, so this course seems just designed for a learner like me.

Finally, I must confess I do not have any models to follow or imitate, it is true that I have writers I enjoy reading but I am not sure if they count as far as Ph thesis contexts are concerned.   Hopefully I will be able to find some of them in this interesting course!
